Professional Advocacy

• ASCLS is the founder and cosponsor of the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA) and appoints members to the NCA Board of Directors. ASCLS / ASCLS-MS advocates initial and continued competency in clinical laboratory practice.
• ASCLS representatives sit on the Board of Directors of the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), the organization that accredits and sets standards for nationwide educational programs in Clinical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Technology, Histologic Technology, Diagnostic Molecular Science, and Pathologists' Assisting; and approves programs in Phlebotomy, Clinical Assisting, and Cytogenetics Technology.
• ASCLS appoints member representatives to the American Hospital Association, The National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS), The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee (CLIAC), The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, The International Association of Medical Laboratory Personnel, and The National Fire Protection Association.
• ASCLS is a sponsor of National Medical Laboratory Week, which promotes public recognition and awareness of the role and contributions of Clinical Laboratory Science practitioners to quality and cost effective patient care.
